Just one final comment,

I know some of you have not been able to reach me quickly on the wlss.captain email address, because sometimes I am not able to get to that email as frequently as I would like.

If its urgent please try me on my personal email kpslstimms@aol.com
Thanks to all who turned up on a complex day and made it all work (just about)

Congratulations to the May Medal winner Roy Williams

and Geoff Mills for winning the Steve Putt Trophy
Question: why is it not called the Steve Putt Shield ?

Todays result  in addition to the KO prelim with 30 playing the Greensomes competition a very busy course this morning
1st Alan Jones and Martin Buckingham 65 points
2nd James Barnatt and Roy Williams on countback 70 points
3rd Roger Laban and Ron Deacon 70 points

So we have a match Thursday but Brian will be at the Lakes to take your months subscriptions.

Also a plea for players against Stow at home on Tuesday 13th June I am still short by 4 or 5 players. If you want to play at Stow please try and be available for the home game just to make my life easier

Good Evening Golfers

What a Scorcher!!
Beautiful day for golf and a very close result, no brilliant scores but lots crowding in within 4 shots

Divisional Results as below

As you will see the change of the divisions certainly evened up the numbers

Trouble is is gets even harder to win in Div 1 now.

So congratulations to Geoff Mills who wins the Steve Putt Trophy beating Gerry Collier on countback ( Just)

Start sheets for next Tuesday and the team list for next Thursday are also posted now

Tuesday 23 May 2017

So on a day where the weather held fine but was not as nice as promised by the authorities 26 of us played Erics game.

When I mused about only paying 1st and 2nd prizes your much loved captain was abused and threatened if only by the two people who were third in each division and their fellow travellers. But as Mrs May so eloquently and gracefully showed earlier this week just changing your mind about something doesn't mean you've done a U Turn or anything else that might show weakness.

So this weeks result

Div 1
1st Tony Ward 17, 2nd Bob Kirkwood 18, 3rd Rod Rapley 18

Div 2
1st Cliff Surman 19, 2nd Mike Dawson 21, 3rd Richard Gent 21

Steve Putt trophy Thursday and who knows how that might end up

Monday 22 May 2017

Good Afternoon Golfers

After the reorganising of our calendar tomorrow is a roll up, I thought we could play Erics Game again as I missed it the last time and its a game I enjoy. Sign Up sheet is in the changing room.

Also posted on the notice board in the sports bar and on the blog page  is the tee time sheet for Thursdays Steve Putt Trophy. Sign up sheets for Junes Medal and the Invotec trophy are also in the sports bar

So I'm still struggling with How Did I Do but I see the result for last Tuesday arrived this morning, so not convinced its me (or Glyn) it may just be an issue with the web sites.

So todays result.

Congratulations to Ron as overall winner.

It really was a pleasure to walk around the course today unfortunately my walk was spoiled by having Dinger Long insist that I had to whack a silly little white ball from hedge to hedge and tree to tree as I went.

One other change today following the committee meeting it has been agreed to try and even up the sizes of the divisions by moving those with a playing handicap of 22 into division 1. I will keep an eye on the results and see how that goes.

Wednesday 17 May 2017

I havent been able to sort the How Did I Do problem, so the result fo yesterdays game by other means is as follows

The only playing handicap reduction is our division 1 winner, plus 2 playing handicap increases
Malcolm Saunders to 21
Cliff Smith to 23

Tuesday 16 May 2017

Good Evening Golfers

For some Reason How Did I do has not posted the results from today yet, it may be something I did or said, we all know how temperamental computer systems are these days. So I will come to that result when I have sorted it.
Until then I have posted the start times for Thursdays Summer Stableford 2 and also the draw for the Summer Singles KO on a new tab.

The preliminary round for the Singles is going to be Tuesday 30th May to coincide with the May Prize Giving when the rest of us will be playing in a Greensomes competition. Let me know if you intend to play in the KO and I will organise the tee times accordingly. The preliminary round must be played on or before Thursday 15th June.

Good Morning Golfers

I trust you all stayed dry yesterday, the course at Carswell was very dry the ball ran and ran.
My ball ran into bunkers ran into bushes ran behind trees and eventually ran out of bounds and to cap it all neither me nor Roy could even buy a putt.

So we last four and a half to one and a half.

Yesterdays game at the Lakes may have proved a little controversial and the management would like to issue a formal statement

"When Kevin asked me to run the Thursday show I thought it would be a change to try and do something different. Hence a nice and easy Bogey competition where each player plays against the course. Basically a Standard stable ford game but with different points for each score.Simple I thought!!!! Big mistake. With what appeared that the little grey cells of players seemed to match the number of players the scoring system proved a bridge to far. Some really understood the system, some really had difficulty and some had not a Scooby. cards were entered with standard stable ford scores plus the competition requirement. Scores even included a minus 0. There were many that were so altered that one could be forgiven for thinking that a drunken spider had filled in the card.

But those of us that were still in the bar later on  had a good laugh over the scores. What it's all about!!!"

Anyway 20 played and winner was Dave Williams on +6 Second John Watt with +4 on CB.

Next Tuesdays Roll Up will be an Individual Stroke Play Competition off the Yellows so a great chance for us all to get our handicaps down ready for the summer (just in case we eventually get one)

Tuesday 9 May 2017

Good Afternoon to all.
Quite a bit to get through today so first thing to say is that through an oversight  todays game wasn't set up as a qualifier on the computer system although it could have been. I am not going to go back through the cards and enter them all onto the system but if anyone wants their score entered for handicap adjustment purposes let me know.
In future I will try and be more careful about setting up potential qualifiers on the system.
So 36 played in our game today and the winners were as follows

Div 1 1st Alex Tyrell 39; 2nd John Alexander 36; 3rd Rod Rapley 35

Div 2 1st Gerry Collier 39; 2nd Roy Williams 36; 3rd John Watt 36 (cb)

The split between divisions 1 and 2 is becoming uneven and I will propose at our next committee meeting that we adjust the divisions.

We had proposed that the singles KO would start on 23rd May but that now coincides with Dave Stones Funeral and I know several of our members will want to go to that, so we will hold the preliminary round of the KO on the same day as the end of month prize giving, that should allow us to keep on track. The sign up sheet for the KO will come down and the draw will be made next Tuesday.
Finally we have a match, away to Carswell, Thursday and John Alexander will host the roll up for those not involved.

Friday 5 May 2017

Good Evening to all

I expect many of you already have heard that sadly Dave Stone passed away last weekend.
Dave had been ill for a long time and finally lost his battle on Sunday.

I didn't put a comment up before as I haven't been able to confirm any details but today I read a notice in the Oxford Mail. His family have invited those who knew Dave to join them to celebrate his life on Tuesday May 23rd at 12:00pm at St John the Evangelist, Hailey.

I am sure many of us will be wanting to remember Dave.

Thursday 4 May 2017

Well I was definitely blown of course on the course today, scores were generally pretty high all except for one, and interestingly that belonged to the April bandit, but more of that in a bit.

First Tuesdays result

1st
Peter McNamara, Dave Williams and John Alexander 140 points
2nd
Dick Harris, Tony Ward and Paddy Marcks 133 points

Todays Result

Congratulations to Roy ( and a 3 stroke cut)

Next Tuesday it will be an Individual Stableford game and next Thursdays team away at Carswell will be on the match page soon.

Tuesday 2 May 2017

Good Evening to all you Witney Lakes Old Boys.

We had a good time at Radley today the weather was dry, the wind was light and the course was in great condition.
We won three and a half to two and a half and came away very contented.

I have spoken to Doug who tells me we had a good turnout today and a nice game even if he cant actually remember who won, but anyway we will sort that Thursday.

Its the May medal on Thursday so get plenty of rest till then.

One more thing for you all to think about, as long as we get your support we are planning our September away day at Oxford City (Southfield) a very nice course but it will have to be on a Monday (Sept 4th) because of other societies already having bookings. Comments please on Thursday
