Lan–Com Trophy

  1. Open to all Male members of Witney Lakes Golf Club, aged 55yrs and over on the day of the competition, who hold an active/competition handicap.
  2. Format – 18 Hole Strokeplay
On each tee, any TWO clubs can be selected to be used alternately, until you are within the proximity of the green. If you choose to putt off the green, and the ball does not reach the green, you then have to use the next club in rotation. Once on the green, the putter can be used as many times as necessary to hole out.
An air shot counts as a stroke, therefore the second attempt is made using your next chosen club.
An out-of-bounds shot is played using the same club as the first attempt, as a stroke is lost this represents a shot using the second club.
If a ball is in a hazard and a drop is taken, the next shot is also taken using the same club that was used when the ball entered the hazard.
A provisional ball is also played using the same club as the original, and taking alternate clubs until the original ball is found, and the hole played out as normal.
Should you inadvertently use the same club consecutively, this incurs a TWO-stroke penalty.
  3. Tees - Yellow
  4. Handicap - Full

Team / Pairs Competitions

3's, 4's & 5's

This is a stableford game played in teams of three, off full handicap.

All three team members score on the par 3s
Any two team members score on the par 4s
Any one team member scores on the par 5s

The scorecard must show the gross scores & stableford points for each player, the total for the hole and the final total for 18 holes.

Bowmaker

This is a stableford game played in teams of three, off full handicap.

Any one team member scores on holes 1 - 6
Any two team members score on holes 7 - 12
All three team members score on holes 13 - 18

The scorecard must show the gross scores & stableford points for each player, the total for the hole and the final total for 18 holes.

Eric's Competition

This is an Individual competition.

The front nine holes are played strokeplay; i.e. Gross score for the front 9 minus 1/2 (rounded-up) handicap.
The back nine holes are played stableford.

At the end of the game the score recorded is the difference between the front and back. Par would be nett 36 - 18 pts = 18 anything less than this is probably a winning score.

Teasing Stableford / Strokeplay

This can be played as an individual or team game.

Players play from the three different tees (White / Yellow / Red) in rotation, in the order determined, on the sign sheet, on the day.

When playing off the red tee the Mens Stroke Index is still used.

Texas Scramble

Each team will consist of three or four players. Strokes received equals exactly 1/6 (3/team), or 1/10 (4/team), of combined playing handicaps.
All players can tee off at each hole.
The nominated team captain then selects the best drive and marks the position (within 6 inches) with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). A minimum of five (3/team), or four (4/team), tee shots per player to be used. The other players then retrieve their balls.
The player whose ball has been chosen then plays his next shot first. The remaining players then play within six inches of the tee peg (not nearer the hole). Note! Golf balls shall be placed on closely mown areas and dropped if the chosen ball in play is in the rough or a hazard.
The above method of play is followed until the green is reached. On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked by a putter head length and players putt from the same spot in turn. Each player must mark the ball after putting.
Play continues from each chosen position until the ball is holed.
The score is the total number of shots from the chosen spots (including the tee shot).
Note! If a player putts and misses but then inadvertently knocks the ball into the hole, then that score counts.
At the end of the round the total for each hole is added together and the strokes received subtracted to give the total net medal score for the round.
The winning team will be the one with the lowest medal score.
All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play” In particular please be aware of Rule 14.2. Team members are not allowed to position themselves on or close to an extension of the line of play or the line of putt behind the ball.

Yellow Peril

This is a stableford team game, usually played with 3 man teams. Each player playing off full handicap.
Each player, in rotation (order to be decided before teeing off on the first), plays the hole with the 'nominal' Yellow Ball.
All team members scores count on all holes. The player with the 'Yellow Ball' scores double points for that hole.
However... if the 'Yellow Ball' is lost* then that player scores Zero points for that hole only. His team mates scores still count.
*Definition of 'Lost': The Yellow Ball is lost if -
  1. It is Out Of Bounds, inc. Internal OOB.
  2. It is in a Water Hazard (Yellow Stakes), regardless of whether there is any water in the hazard.
  3. It is in a Lateral Water Hazard (Red Stakes), regardless of whether there is any water in the hazard.
  4. The ball is lost, through the green, and not found within 5 minutes. This means... No need to play a Provisional!!
