Good Evening

As I said at the prize giving ceremony we are delighted to have had seven new members join us this calendar year.
I know I can count on you to make them feel welcome.

The new R&A handicap rules are starting to make them selves felt with handicaps for existing members increasing over 28 and new members getting handicaps ranging from 28 to 46.
I am sure with the spate of Qualifying competitions in May, some of these handicaps will come down sharply.

A reminder to new players, whilst we don’t want to race around the course, we would like to avoid elongated rounds, a good pace helps the rhythm of the round
So make sure where possible you don’t wait before a player has played his ball before going to your ball and taking out the appropriate club.
When you go to the Greens make sure your trolley is on the side of the green to exit to the next hole.
I have also been asked to remind players not to talk when a player is about to take a shot.
Can the senior members of a grouping assist in helping other players with these etiquettes

We had a Quiz night this Wednesday evening at the Lord Kitchener, where 24 members turned up. Obviously I would have liked more members to galvanise themselves and join in
This was well organized by Glyn Rees, it was fun, informative and the food was good
The Winners were the Daly’s and the Pitchforth’s who all won wine and chocolates and the Daly’s and the Barnatt’s won the raffle prize of two excellent bottles of wine.
The point of the evening was to raise money for our charity this year Bowel cancer and we raised £92 on the night.

Patsome Pairs was a triumph of design over practicality!!

Anyway Kevin and myself finally managed to concoct the scores so the winners were

  1. Roger (The Dodger) Laban and Jim Whalley 38 points
  2. Tony Ward & Brian Floyd 33 points on countback
  3. Ken Gregory & Ron Deacon 33 points

I have taken down the sign up sheets for the Monthly Medal on the 3rd May and the Reg Mills Trophy on the 8th May.
If anyone has not entered and would like to let me know before the end of this weekend .

There are sign up sheets up for the following in the Sports Bar, if you can’t get there e-mail me
Invotech 17th May
Steve Putt 24th May and I will put up the sheet for the Summer Stableford R2 29th May next week.

The club are asking us to confirm numbers and tee times the day before so if you want to play you have to sign up for these qualifying competitions and not turn up on the day

There is a Roll Up on Tuesday, as we have a team away to Radley, Cliff Smith with be the master of ceremonies

Regards

Rod

Tuesday 24 April 2018

The forecasters got it wrong today, didn’t they.

We had a match against Drayton Park, who are always a strong team.

However we had a really strong team out today and came through strongly to win 4&2.

Rod Rapley
Dave Williams
W 3&2
James Barnatt
Tony Daly
L 3&2
Declan Jordan
Kevin Timms
W 1Up
Ken Gregory
Mike Twyman
W2&1
Tony Ward
Glyn Rees
W3&2
Rod bools
Ron Feasey
L 4&3

Some good news was that Rod Bools played his first match for us and Tony Daly played his second match and his first of this year
That means 24 different players have played in the 4 matches we have played.
I would like as many players as possible to play in a match this year, even if it is only one and even if you have played for the team many times in the last 20 years
There more games scheduled and I will look to use as many players as possible. There is one proviso, most clubs will insist on a maximum handicap allowance of 28.
Those players playing in home matches will be given preference for the away fixtures
Please see the notice board for the sign up sheets

19 players participated in the Roll up today.

I am not sure how many prizes there will be but the top 3 points totals were

  1. Jim Whalley 34 points
  2. Alec Tyrell 33 points
  3. John Watt 32 points
Well done Jim who has only recently joined us and has only had his handicap for a week or so.

Good Morning,
Weather looking OK this week.

On Tuesday there is the Home Match against Drayton Park.
So there is a Roll Up Stableford which Gerry Collier will run.

On Thursday a long awaiting Prize Giving so if you have won something over the last 3 months please be there

So the competition is a fun Patsomes

Please see the draw for the Patsomes Pairs competition.

Please note the slightly later tee time start.
This is to allow some players who cannot start earlier for good reasons to be part of the competition

If anyone else would like to enter at this stage Graham Simpson is looking for a partner, or if  anyone cannot play let me know and Graham can take your place

The format will be stroke play, full handicaps for both players divided by 2

Holes 1-6 - Four Ball - each player plays with his own ball and the better score of the team counts
Holes 7-12 - Greensomes - both teammates take a tee shot one ball is selected The player whose ball was not selected, then plays the second shot all future shots are alternated
Holes 13-18 - Foursomes - One player tees off on the odd numbered holes, the other on the even holes, regardless of who played the last putt on the first hole. The other shots are played in turns until the hole is finished.
