The Raffle - Seniors Charity Open Tuesday 11th August 2015

It is customary to run a raffle at this event. In the past many prizes have been generously donated by members from within our seniors section. Once again I would ask you all to contribute a prize for the raffle. All the proceeds go towards the Captain's charity AIR AMBULANCE.

Typical prizes might include

Bottles of spirits.
Bottles of wine.
Unwanted but new golfing paraphernalia to include umbrellas, clothing, clubs, balls, etc.
Any other new items that a golfer might find useful.

Please bring your donations to me at Witney Lakes, on either a Tuesday or Thursday over the next month.

Many thanks.

Barry Holmes - Seniors' Vice Captain

WANTED

Seniors' Captain and Seniors' Vice-Captain from 1st November 2015

Some of you may remember at the AGM last year, that despite being elected as Vice Captain, I said at the time that I might be moving to Devon in 2015, and may not be able to take on the Captain's role for a second time.

At the moment it is more than likely that we will move by the end of this year, hence the notice.

If you feel that you want to be more involved in the running of the Senior Section then please talk to Cliff Smith or myself about the two jobs.

Barry Holmes

New Local Rule

Following consultation with Steve Putt, we are introducing a new 'local rule' with immediate effect:

On the damaged sections of the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 13th, and 18th. fairways, a ball may be lifted and placed within one club length, not nearer the hole, without penalty.

The purpose of this is to avoid further damage to the fairway which may be caused by a club striking ground unprotected by grass and/or without a healthy root system and applies to the above parts of the course only.

Friday 19 June 2015

Club Championship - starters

The 'main club' Championship is being played on Sat. 4th. and Sun. 5th. July. The Seniors have been asked for volunteers who would be willing to act as starters on both (or either) of those days.
On the Saturday, duties would be from approx. 08.00 to 10.00 and on the Sunday from 08.00 to 11.00.
If you would be able to support the club in this way please contact Cliff Smith.

Match v Bicester - Thurs. 25th. June

The team list for the above match is now on the website. My apologies that it has not been published sooner and even now is incomplete but there have been an exceptional number of changes to availability. It is very helpful when people TELL ME in advance of their availability. Thank you to those people who have, particularly when it has been on paper or online. The team for the match v Stowe on Thurs. 2nd. July should be less problematic to organise and will be published shortly.

Tuesday 16 June 2015

Results from the 5,3,4 team game played today (16th June).

I have consulted with the Captain over the result today. The team that came in with 66 points had a member who has not got an official handicap. A recognised handicap is essential if you are going to take part in either a stroke play or Stableford competition. Furthermore this team also signed for the wrong total. I have no hesitation in disqualifying the team. VC.

Fortunately or unfortunately this puts the VCs team into the lead. (Boo, fixed I hear you say ...)

FIRST: Douglas Keen, Barry Lund and Barry Holmes [64 points]
SECOND: Alan Jones, Bill Corcoran and Dinger Long [62 points]

Please note - players new to the Senior Section of the Club. If you don't bring an official handicap with you from another club, then please submit THREE cards, from three rounds of golf off the yellow tees, marked by an independent player, to Alan Lake (Seniors H'cap Secretary). You will then be awarded an official handicap and can take part in all the competitions.

The roll-up on Thursday 18th June is an Individual Stableford off the Yellow Tees. There will be a nearest the pin on ONE of the par 3's (the 12th.) and a longest drive on the 17th Hole.

Please note this individual Stableford competition is an opportunity for any new member without a handicap to go round with a playing member who can mark their card for them (the new member will not play in the competition).
