Results from the Ewart Chitty Memorial Trophy played today ...

I am assuming that Dinger Long is at least 70 years of age, in which case congratulations to Dinger for returning a score of 40 points and winning the Ewart Chitty Memorial Trophy for 2016.

The results over the three divisions are as follows. I did say that I wanted prizes to be distributed for first and second place over the three divisions regardless of age! Once again congratulations to all those in this category.

Good day to All

Today I have posted a sheet on the seniors notice board for the U Boat Pairs Competition, I'll be organising the draw early November. I have allocated dates in the calendar where we can either have a roll up or, if required, the U Boat rounds. Sounds easy but I know it isn't; however I will be quite tight on the dates for each round to be finished.

I have also added a sheet so that you can book tables for the hand over dinner if you want to sit with certain people. A few have signed up but we need some more, I was asked about what went with the various main courses and was told " a medley of seasonal vegetables"; so that sorted that out?!

One last thing we need another three names for the game at Shrivenham 20th October, our last match this year.
Its arrive 9:00 to 9:30 for a bacon bap and coffee followed by a one course meal (after the golf of course)
I think they have a 2 or 3 tee start so its not such a long day as some matches. So don't be shy.

The week ahead ...

Greetings my golfing chums ... on the golf menu this week we have ...

Tuesday 11th October - The Ewart Chitty Memorial Trophy. For all of you who want to play a trophy game off the yellow tees with Stableford scoring, this is the one for you. Provided you are over 70 you could win the trophy. There will still be prizes for first and second in each division so the youngsters are still in with a chance!

Thursday 13th October - The Seniors' Masters. A white tee, stroke play competition, by invitation only. If your name appears in red italics on the tee times list please let me know if you intend to play before the event - thank you.

For those not in the Masters there will be an 18-hole individual Stableford off the yellow tees starting on the back 9 holes. Roll-up from 7:45 for this event please.

All tee times for both Tuesday and Thursday are on this website.
On Thursday after the Masters there is a Seniors' Committee meeting.
Remember to sign-up for the Presentation Dinner on Friday 28th October.

After this week Kevin Timms takes on the role of Captain, I shall disappear to Devon, but hope to return for the Presentation Dinner.

Keep golfing ... it said in the paper this week, playing golf adds an extra five years to your life!

Results from the games being played today ...

At home the Texas Scramble result appeared to be very close when I left the Sports Bar early. Two teams were on 61.8 with another team to come in. The final result was ...

First: Alex Tyrell, Tony Ward and Mike Smith 61.8CB
Second: Alan Jones, Ron Deacon and Barry Holmes 61.8

Apologies to my team of Alan and Ron I appear to have got the arithmetic wrong!

Congratulations to Team Witney for winning away at Banbury - score 3.5 to 2.5. Well done lads, keep up the good work.

NOTICE. Kevin Sheehan is looking for a partner in the Rotary Charity Golf Event at Burford GC on Friday 14th October. His partner for the event has had to withdraw owing to injury. Please help Kevin, 'phone him on 07580-599315.

YET ANOTHER NOTICE. Following on from the meeting of the main golf club committee last evening, the policy to allow seniors to open the Sports Bar on a Tuesday and Thursday has now been changed to read "... the bar could not be open to the public any earlier than the advertised time due to staffing and requested that seniors DO NOT OPEN THE OUTER DOORS EARLIER THAN 7:45".
