Entry to the Charity Open Competition on 9th August is now CLOSED and I am in the process of drawing up tee-times.
I need volunteers from those senior members who have not entered the Charity Open to help run the day - starters (2), spotters (4), scoring master (1) and anything else I can think of.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Tuesday 2nd August we have an AWAY match against Bicester GC. Please see the matches tab for the team.
Also on the same day is a roll-up at home 8:00-9:30. This is Eric's Competition. John Alexander has kindly volunteered to run the game.
On Thursday 4th August is the Gavin Brown Trophy - see Tee Times tab on this website.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brian has asked me to remind you that monthly subs are due at the beginning of August - he will be pleased to receive your cash.
That's all folks - enjoy your golf!

The week ahead ...
If you still want to take part in the Charity Open Golf event on the 9th August and haven't yet entered then please complete a form (available on-line, at the Resort's reception or in the Sports Bar), and let me have it together with your cheque no later than Thursday 28th July.
Once again I am appealing to all golfers in the Seniors' Section to support the fixtures against other golf clubs. For next month we have matches against Bicester and Stowe School away, and Shrivenham and West Berkshire at home. Please sign-up on the notice board in the Sports Bar. I desperately need players for the Bicester match asap.
Tuesday 26th July - This is a roll-up Eliminator Team game run by Gerry. The Eliminator game is very easy to follow. It's a Stableford off the yellow tees. If you go in a hazard you don't score on that hole for your team.
Also on Tuesday is the home match against Radley College - so you just might see me out on the course!
Thursday 28th July - Four-ball-better-ball. Tee times shown on this website. If your name is not down, find a friend to play with and put down the pair against a timeslot on the appropriate notice in the Sports Bar.
After the match is prize giving for the month. Please stay until the end.
A reminder to the Seniors' Committee - please stay behind for 15 minutes on Thursday we need to finalise items for the charity open day.
On the Thursday you might like to bring in a prize for the Charity Open raffle. Cliff Smith is collecting all such prizes and I know that all donations will be gratefully received.
Thank you for your cooperation - enjoy your golf!

Update on course conditions ...
If you thought the greens looked a little brown in places and very dry it's because the main supply water pump to the green sprinklers failed earlier this week. A new pump is being installed and the greens should be back in good condition in the next few days.
You may have also noticed two strips of new turf on the 13th green. This is to repair damaged turf from last week. As far as I am aware it is NOT GUR. Just putt over it as normal.

Results from the games played yesterday ...
Despite the high temperature yesterday we had a cracking or should that be sizzling match at Drayton Park.
Five out of six matches were decided on the 18th hole - it was just that close. Final result was in favour of Drayton 3.5 to 2.5. Clearly a better result than last week at home.
The course at Drayton was in tip-top condition, excellent company and hospitality as usual. Well done Drayton for giving us such a good day out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second: Alex Tyrell 35 CB
Division 2
First: Gerry Collier 35
Second: Ron Feasey 33
Division 3

Results from golf played today ...
There was no organised roll-up today owing to much reduced numbers playing amongst the seniors!
In the home match against Kirtlington, weather good, company good, food good, golf not so good. We got a thrashing 5-1 to Kirtlington. Pity because up until today we had an unbroken series of home wins.
On Tuesday 19th next week we hope to run the roll-up as normal, this will be a Whack & Hack Team Game.
Also on Tuesday twelve players will be away in a match at Drayton Park.
On Thursday 21st we have Summer Stableford Round 3. The tee times are already published on the website and will also be published in the Sports Bar next week. If you want to join in write your name against the next available tee time on the sheet or email me at wlss.captain@gmail.com

Comment from the Captain ...
The number of active players in the Senior Section is getting smaller, and as a result I find it is becoming increasingly difficult to get teams of players for fixtures against other clubs.
For Thursday 14th, after a lot of pestering, I have a team to play Kirtlington at home, and I am most grateful to those members who have put themselves forward.
As our numbers for roll ups is also diminishing it may not be possible to hold an organised roll up with prizes on Thursday 14th July. For this reason I am suggesting that all those who want to play golf, and are not in the team, that you organise your own games between 8:00 - 9:30. There will be no roll-up sheet to sign, and nobody to open up the Sports Bar before 8:00.
