Thursday 29 June 2017

So another good day at the lakes today 24 turned out in the Texas Scramble and the winners with 59 were Mike Smith, Pat Hiles and Dave Williams and second with 61 were martin Buckingham, Tony Ward and Cliff Smith.
Also today the First Round of the Summer KO was completed, thanks to all, next round is scheduled for 11th July, and should be completed by the end of July.

I have completed the start sheet for next Tuesdays Seniors Championship round 1 and will post it in the next few minutes. Just a short explanation, round one is in handicap order with low handicaps first, round 2 is lowest gross score last so that the contenders come in at the end of the competition (in theory).

Also just a short word to encourage all who can to sign up for the July matches, the first at home to Kirtlington on the 13th and also get your names down for the Charity Open on August the 8th and the Seniors BBQ on the 11th

Also just a note that if anybody is at a loose end this weekend the main club would welcome helpers and spotters for the club championships.

Last but by no means least, although the Hon Treasurer is away he has tasked me with collecting in any monthly subs I can next week (honest guv)

So I got there in the end, I had to reopen the competition and change Rons score then close it again so you may have had some strange messages from How Did I Do this afternoon but I think its all OK now

So as far as Ron is concerned Good News and Bad News

Good News his handicap only went down 1
Bad News although he won Div 2 comfortably he lost out on the overall June Medal to Tony Ward on count back

Good Morning to You Golfers

I have two apologies for this morning.

First I haven't yet sorted out the Medal Result. When I got home and looked at the result there is something wrong with Ron Deacons result in the computer so I  have to go into the club and get his card and sort it out today. Often it wouldn't matter but Ron Played a blinder yesterday and is very close to being the medal winner so I need to do it properly.

Second I had hoped we would play a Greensomes tomorrow but with an odd number signed up that doesn't really work without kidnapping someone to join us. So I have plumped for a Texas Scramble and the teams and Tee times are as below. Also we are playing some KO rounds and we have a new member Andrew Peacock coming along to start qualifying for a handicap. All very complex

Yesterday James Barnatt was married to Sally Williams at a very nice ceremony at Eynsham Hall.
I know you all send your regards and best wishes to the happy couple

Thursday 22 June 2017

A bit different on the course today, it felt quite chilly after the last few days, but we all agreed it was nice to have a proper English summer back again.

So as any one who follows the blog will know a very splintered day today with 11 playing in the roll up. Division 1 was won by Alex Tyrell on 40 points and Division 2 won by Mike Dawson on 34.

We had a very good 10 a side match with Bicester which we won three and a half to one and a half, they were good company and once again the meal was very good. Once again the opposition were very complimentary about the condition of the course.

Next Tuesday is the June Medal, I have pinned up a start sheet in the Sports Bar and I'll post it on the Tee Time sheet soon.

I am not around at the club over the weekend but look forward to seeing you all Tuesday

Tuesday 20 June 2017

Yet another scorcher
Golfers everywhere sitting slowly melting in the heatwave.

So a bunch of happy (?) golfers at Wrag Barn , 3 matches in the summer KO, and 11 in the Roll Up played today.

The results from the Roll Up Div 1 won by Gerry Webb with 37 points and Div 2 Barry Lund 36 points.

Good scoring on a day like today.
I am still trying to get a  team for Thursday but still not quite there yet, I have asked Bicester what they want to do, I am expecting a reduced game of some description if we still cant get to 12.

Monday 19 June 2017

Good afternoon Golfers.

What a hot one

I have posted a sign up sheet in the changing rooms for tomorrow a combination of Summer KO and Stableford Roll Up looked after by James.

I am still 3 short for Thursdays match please let James know tomorrow if you can play. We only failed once to get a team last year but the next few days and weeks are clearly going to need some of the members who don't normally play to step up if we are going to keep our record for this year.

Friday 16 June 2017

Good Afternoon to all, sorry the results are a bit late but I have been playing with my 2 year old granddaughter all day and really I need a lie down.

Anyway I got a call from Gerry last evening telling me it had all "got a bit complicated" which turned out to mean that his team hadn't read the rules before the game and gotten it wrong. No matter as it didn't affect the result.

Only 9 played ( must have been the weather, way too hot?) so only one prize which was won by Alex Tyrell, Paddy Marcks, and Geoff Mills with 132 points.

We (the other 12) had a great day at Wychwood a friendly welcome, a good win, (four and a half to one and a half), and a very nice meal. The course was in top nick as well but comparing it to the Lakes, which a couple of years ago would not have been kind, shows how far our course has come on.

So next week James will hold the roll up for those not playing in the KO, quite a few are at the Wrag Barn Seniors Open. Also quite a few at Lillybrook Thursday which is why I keep asking for volunteers to play Bicester Thursday.

If you intend to play in the KO I am leaving you to arrange your own Tee times I will post a sign up sheet in the changing rooms Monday to combine the roll up and the KO

Wednesday 14 June 2017

What a difference a bit of sunshine makes.

I had 21 cards handed in yesterday, I thought there were more on the sign up sheet but I'll leave that to Sherlock Rollerson to sort out.

Anyway a lovely day for golf and lets hope it continues, we won our match against Stowe 5 to 1 and had a very good meal afterwards.

Winners of the roll up
Div 1; 1st John Alexander 40 points 2nd Geoff Mills 38 points

Div 2; 1st Dinger Long 34 points 2nd Brian Rollerson 34 points (on CB)

Another match Thursday at Wychwood and a Yellow Peril roll up organised by Gerry Collier.

I suspect I am still looking for names for next Thursdays match against Bicester, don't be shy!!

Monday 12 June 2017

Another dull Monday but at least its not raining (yet). Two matches this week (good planning or sods law you decide)

So tomorrows roll up is an individual stableford game hosted by Ron Deacon, thanks to Ron for that.

Thursday we'll have another game and another roll up details to come later.

One more match this month Bicester at home on Thursday 22nd. Lots of our regular team members otherwise engaged that day so I need volunteers. At the moment we have 6 or 7  signed up, so if you don't play very often but want to support us with the occasional game this is a good one to play in.

Kevin

Thursday 8 June 2017

Wow, Tough Day at the Office Today. They say Flaming June and I reckon they have got that about right Flaming Nightmare.

Anyway congratulations to John Alexander who won the Invotech, although he doesn't let on he clearly relishes the wet and windy conditions so regularly found on the course lately.

Anyway thanks to all who volunteered for next weeks matches I now have 2 teams but no reserves. Both teams will be on line in the next few minutes.

Two points
Tuesday is 10:00 first Tee so 30 minutes earlier than usual and Thursday is a "Jacket and Tie" dress code. I have told all that I have seen that you will be expected to wear trousers as well, please let people know

Wednesday 7 June 2017

Attention Witney Golfers

After yesterdays abandoned June Medal I have looked at the possibilities for finding a new date in an already very crowded calendar and after discussions with anybody I could find who expressed  any interest decided the following.

We will play the June Medal instead of round 3 of the Summer Stableford on June 27th. we will run the Stableford probably next month some time (to be decided).

I will put up a new sign up sheet tomorrow, anybody already signed up for the Stableford I will transfer your name to the new sheet.

So tomorrow is the Invotech Trophy as advertised (weather permitting)

Also tomorrow I will put up the sign up sheet for the Seniors Club Championships which is only a month away now

Tuesday 6 June 2017

So, well played all who turned up today, and played in the freak glorious weather at Witney. I understand all around the area was raining and a gale  blowing except for us, once again an example of the sun shining on the righteous.
or.......
We didn't actually play at all and I am playing for time while I work out what to do next.

you choose the most likely report

Friday 2 June 2017

Thanks to Dave for looking after the roll up today results are as below.

We had a very nice day at Haddon Hill and an honourable 3 all draw, lovely weather and a course in tip top condition

19 players turned up for rollup today the first three are as follows

Martin Buckingham 36 points
Geoff  Mills 35 points
Gerry Webb 34 points

The medal is on Tuesday and I will try and post the start list for the Invotec trophy some time over the weekend.

I still need a couple of players for the Stow home game on Tuesday the 13th, a fine time for all is guaranteed by the management
