Thursday 31 August 2017

I hope you all enjoyed todays golf, the weather was both good and bad, a bit like my golf, one minute sunny the next getting pretty wet but not until the last hole. So if the play had been a bit quicker we would have been dry, perhaps a thought for next time on what seemed a very slow day.

Winners today were Cliff Smith and Malcolm Saunders on 45 points, second Bob Kirkwood and John Alexander on 43.

Two prizes for August were presented

The August medal winner Alex Tyrell good to see him there today and the biggest trophy in the cabinet the Gavin Brown trophy  for Robbie Robinson.

We had an apprentice photographer on duty today so thanks to Cliff Surman as others didn't want to take the pictures, but I grabbed Cliff before he could get away.

Sign up sheets for two away matches in September are up on the notice board I am away for both so thanks to Cliff Smith and Rod Rapley for looking after them, the last match at home to Banbury on October 3rd will be up on the board before I go on holiday

Looking at the Pictures on Saturday I know Robbies is getting on a bit but Iwant to know how come he is in black and white, what's the secret Cliff

Saturday 26 August 2017

Good Morning Golfers

Sorry for the delay in posting the results from Thursday but once again baby sitting duties loomed large, and it turns out when its a choice between my two year old granddaughter and you lot there is only one winner ( according to my wife)

So 11 played in the roll up and there was one exceptional score, the game was non qualifying for the reasons we have been through before ( no one to turn the computer on ) but Barry if you would like to have your handicap adjusted let me know.

Result

Div 1 1st Alex Tyrell 35 points 2nd Mike Smith 33

Div 2 1st Barry Lund 41 points 2nd John Robinson 34 ( presumably still playing with one eye closed)

Our match at Stowe was a delight good(ish) golf a unique course and friendly opponents followed by a top class meal all for £15. We won 5 to 1 but frankly when you have such an enjoyable day I dont think the result really mattered much.

We are home to West Berks on next Tuesday and for the roll up I will set up another individual stableford game. If anyone gets bored and wants to organise something different and have a team game one week let me know.

As we are at home we will be able to manage the computer switch on so it will be a qualifying game

Wednesday 23 August 2017

Good Morning to you Gentlemen

36 of us turned out in the Summer Stableford Round 5 and again some pretty good scores were recorded
The Winners were
Div 1  1st Rod Rapley 41 2nd Geoff Mills 39 and 3rd Kevin Timms 37 ( on count back from Roger Laban who would have beaten me if he hadn't been cut recently)

Div 2  1st  Roy Williams 42 2nd Cliff Surman 35 and 3rd Mike Dawson 33

There were three cuts in playing handicap yesterday Rod and Geoff cut 1 shot and Roy cut 3 because of a series of good scores he has put in recently and it turns out the computer doesn't forget
We have a match at Stowe tomorrow and I will post a sign up sheet for an Individual Stableford competition in the Changing Rooms later today
( That is the sign up sheet will be in the changing rooms not the competition )

Kevin (English O level Grade 4 1966)

Sunday 20 August 2017

Gentlemen
I have pinned the Starting Time sheet for Tuesday in the Sports Bar, I am away tomorrow so can some kind soul move the sheet to the changing rooms for the early starters please.

I will be on holiday from 11th September so I have pinned up all the sign up sheets for the month in the Sports Bar, so if you see a committee man coming your way duck or you might get a job looking after a game

Thursday 17 August 2017

Good Evening to all. I hope you all enjoyed the Golf today. The match against Shrivenham was a 4 to 2 win to the Lakes. I played with Steve Harrison and we lost our game to 2 guys who played out of their skins. One of our opponents (17 handicap) played the first 9 in 41 gross and even then his mate had won two of the holes, we were 4 down but managed to drag them down to our level over the next 9 holes and lost 3 and 2.

27 played Erics Game and the scores were pretty close

Div 1 was won by Geoff Mills with 19 winning on count back from Mike Smith

Div 2 was won by Cliff Surman also on 19 from Bill Ford on 20.

The Tee times for the Summer Stableford will be on the Tee time sheet in the next 10 minutes and the Team Sheets for the next two matches about 5 minutes later.

One point to emphasise the Stowe game we need to be in good time as they have to man the gates for us, and dress code is Jacket and Tie.

Good afternoon gentlemen,

A lovely day for the Gavin Brown Trophy.
John Robinson made great use of his current eyesight, before his operation next week, scoring a gross 96, resulting in a nett 68. This was 10 shots lower than anyone else in Division 2!
Second overall and top of Division 1 was Andy Wright with a nett 71 and overall third was Rod Rapley with a net 72

Handicap reductions for Rod Rapley to 16, and John Robinson to 26 and Handicap increases to Roger Laban to 18 and Cliff Surman to 25

Thursday 10 August 2017

I hope we are all ready for the BBQ tomorrow (Friday) 7:00 in the Sports Bar. If you haven't paid yet I would appreciate it if you could pay tomorrow. £14 per head

We will be having a raffle of all the unclaimed raffle prizes from Tuesday (nearly all bottles of alcoholic beverage) so bring plenty of money.

Look Forward to seeing you there

So 27 of us braved the conditions today, stepping out on the course despite the warm sunshine and light breezes. As you can see the conditions certainly made the scoring difficult with only Bill Ford coming in at level par. We are obviously used to the wind and rain now adays and struggle to play in any other conditions

Result

Only two changes in handicap both increases

Tuesday 8 August 2017

First off thanks to everyone who either took part, helped out or supported in any way today's open. Despite the weather a really good day with some top class scores.. All of the visitors I spoke to were complimentary about the course, the day generally and particularly about the friendly welcome they received.

Second an apology on my part, the match Thursday has been postponed and we are trying to rearrange it, we were struggling with getting a team and with the open and Friday's BBQ it has all been a bit too much. The fact I forgot to post that news even though I thought I had, just makes that point

Third I will try and post the start list for the Gavin Brown Trophy his Thursday when we will have a roll up Individual Stableford, if anyone wants to be at the club around 9 I will show you how to set up a competition on the computer and more importantly turn the bloody thing on.

Last but by no means least I will be collecting BBQ money if you have it

Kevin

Thursday 3 August 2017

So the Pairs Open draws near.

Start times will be on the tee time page in the next 15 minutes, if you are playing with a visitor or are organising a visitors golf for the day first off, thank you and second, please let them know the tee time.

So we have signer inner's, starters, spotters and scorers arranged for the day but if you want to come along and give us some support you will be very welcome.

The sports bar is open from 7:30 on Tuesday and coffee will be available, also the club have agreed to sell bacon baps, sausage baps, egg baps etc from 7:30 in case you want to take some extra sustenance before your round.

A rolling buffet is available at the end of the round and we expect the day to finish around 3:30.

Thank you if you have donated a raffle prize there looked a good selection earlier and if you haven't there is still time on the day.

Lets hope the weather is good and we can all have a great golfing day
I had a comment from one of our players that he was feeling a bit under the weather, I wish I'd been under it rather than in it. What a day windy or what?

In the conditions some good scores as below (at least I thought they were good especially compared to mine)

So congratulations to Alex Tyrell winner of the August medal.

Wednesday 2 August 2017

So with the Open now almost ready to go and (nearly) all the money in, I will start collecting the money from those signed up for the Friday 11th BBQ at £14 per head.

Perhaps I may bump into you tomorrow

Kevin
Good Morning All

Thank You Gerry for hosting the Roll Up yesterday, I hope you didn't get too wet.
28 played  and results were as follows

Div 1 1st Mike Smith 35 points; 2nd Paddy Marcks 34 points (on cb)

Div 2 1st Bill Ford 36 points; 2nd Cliff Surman 31 points.

We had a good day at Bicester good breakfast followed by a golf lesson which we lost 5:1,
Actually there wasn't all that much in the golf (so my team mates claim) but they just had that edge on us that makes all the difference.

So we have the August Medal tomorrow and I will put the start time sheet in the changing rooms later today.

Next Tuesday we have the Pairs Open and we are all looking forward to a good day. there are still some last minute adjustments to start times going on but I post the latest version (version 4) on the notice board before tomorrows game.

We have a good number of visitors coming and even if you aren't able to play you can still support the day and the charity by bringing along a raffle prize tomorrow.

All contributions gratefully received.

Thank You

Kevin
