Not only is Tuesday the day for John Courtney's Lan-Com trophy it is also the day for giving your monthly subs to Brian.
So - Please be familiar with the rules of the Lan-Com trophy (they are on the competition rules page of the website) and give your subs to Brian before he is off to the sunshine again. When Alan returns from the sun I will ask him to publish the updated Winter Stableford situation.

Hola Golf Amigos
Firstly - A big thank you to Barry for running the competitions and keeping everyone on the straight and narrow over the past 3 weeks. I might just take a holiday again soon!!
Secondly - Thursday's end of the month prize day event will be a 4 ball, pairs, better ball competition with a 2 tee start, DEFINITELY played off FULL HANDICAP. Playing pairs will be drawn at random from a group of eight as people roll up. There will be prizes for the best 3 pairs. Concurrent with this competition there is one U-Boat game to be played. I anticipate this teeing off at 08.24 subject to confirmation with the players.
Thirdly - By the end of next month we shall have played our first two inter-club matches (successfully I hope). Over the next couple of weeks I shall be asking members about the extent of their involvement in these social competitions. During the course of the season (19 matches) I hope to involve as many different people as possible and have teams organised well in advance of match days. I would really appreciate your help here.
Lastly - I have received the first entries for our Seniors Charity Open. This is published on the Golf Empire web site and I have copies of the entry / information form to distribute. Please try to be involved on Tuesday 11th. August, preferably with somebody from outside of Witney Lakes who can enjoy our course and occasion.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

I have received complaints about slow play for today and last week. Please remember just a few simple procedures to speed up your play.
1. When walking up to your ball know in advance what club you are going to play.
2. Don't spend too long with practice swings and just thinking about the shot. Get into the habit of walking up to the ball and playing the shot within the first 30 seconds.
3. Please leave your trolleys on the exit path of the green.
4. Please score your cards on the next tee, not on the green you have just played.
5. Remember 5 minutes max when looking for a lost ball.
6. If there is a clear fairway in front of you and people are piling up behind then please let the next group through.
There are many more suggestions, but please speed up your play.
Thank you.

A reminder about the game on Thursday 12th February.
The roll-up is Eric's Game. This is an individual game, played off the yellow tees, with the following rules.
Front 9 - Strokeplay score minus half your rounded-up handicap.
Back 9 - Stableford score taking your handicap for each hole into consideration.
Result is the difference between front 9 and back 9 scores.
Example. If you have a handicap of 23, half of this 11.5, rounded to 12, the arithmetic might look something like this:
Gross strokeplay score 45 on front 9. Result 45-12 = 33
Stableford score 18 on back 9. Final result for game 33-18 = 15.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is also one match in the U-Boat semi finals being played at 9.00 am between Richard Woodward and Doug Keen VS John Watt and Colin Baker

Results from the 4s, 5s and 3s team game played today (10th Feb)
This game was extremely close at the top end with three teams coming in with 90 points. Since the rules being played today varied from the norm, there is no surprise that at least one team would get the arithmetic wrong! I can think of one member (no name) who would say straight away disqualify the team they didn't follow the scoring convention. Funny how what goes around comes around!!!! Since all the individual scores for the team in question had been written on the card it was no hardship to re-calculate the result.
1st Gerry Collier, Doug Keen and Kevin Timms [90 points - CB on the last 6 holes]
2nd Barry Holmes, Alan Jones and Ron Feasey [90 points with CB on the last 9 holes]
3rd John Alexander, Dave Williams and Andy Wright [90 points]

Roll-Up Tuesday 10th February
As for the majority of Seniors we are playing a 4's, 5's and 3's Team Game for the roll-up. This is a variation on the normal game such that all 3 team members score on the par 4s, 2 score on the par 5s and 1 scores on the par 3s. As usual it is a Stableford format with full handicap allowance.
Brian will be collecting monthly subs from all those that evaded capture last week!
Please don't roll up before 7.45am, since I will have not opened up the Sports Bar.

Snow Policy
Well done to all those seniors who turned up today to play golf only to be informed that the course was closed. At least the company and coffee was good!
Apparently the policy on snow is as follows.
If in doubt about the condition of the course you are advised to 'phone Witney Lakes Course on 01993-893011 before setting out for a game of golf.
