Tuesday 31 January 2017

So a wet day but very enjoyable ( at least by me). I hope you all enjoyed the food.

The pictures from the prize giving didn't go too well.

So just one picture of me standing between the Bandit of the month and Cliff Smiths thumb.

A very well deserved award I'm sure you all agree.

For those who weren't there the winners of the December and January Medals were Richard Gent and Dave Williams. Also the winner of the Bandit of the Year Winner was announced although he wasn't there to receive his prize, however like the Mounties we Always Get Our Man

Winners today (from memory)
1st Mike Smith and Dinger Long
2nd Richard Gent and Tony Ward
3rd Roger Laban and John Watt

Sorry I forgot to note  the actual scores and I left the cards in the club.

On Thursday we have an individual Stableford roll up I'll put the sign up sheet in the changing room tomorrow. I'll also do the draw for next Tuesdays Feb Medal and post the tee times before Thursday.

Last but definitely not least Brian will be hiding in wait for your Feb subs on Thursday. You Have Been Warned

Jeepers that was Cold Today. I hope no one got frostbite or anything worse, I had a pee half way round just to warm my hands.

So 21 played and the scores were pretty good considering the number of overcoats I saw you all wearing
First were Derek Tidy, John Robinson and Martin Buckingham with 72 ( the par score),so the high handicappers do it again
Second Mike Smith, Geoff Mills and Bill Ford with 68, .

Also we had an other two u boat matches and  now Ron Feasey and Richard Gent wait to find out who will play them in the final. Again all games so far have been  on time or early. Thank you to all .

The Game is all set up for next Tuesdays Prize Giving with a 2 Tee start and a snack afterwards, start sheet is on the Sports Bar notice board and on the blog sheet. I only hope its a bit warmer.

Tuesday 24 January 2017

So Today we were completely Fogged Off.

Several had a round later in the morning and we all finished in bright sunshine but no competition no prizes.

So we will have the Winter Sableford game 3 on the 14th of February I will put a new sign up sheet on the board Thursday, so start again, I will ignore the start sheet for today.

Thursday we have a Bowmaker Roll Up and also some Uboat games, sign up sheet is in the changing rooms.

I have made a draw for next Tuesdays Prize Giving and am currently arranging some chips and a sandwich for afterwards. There are 30 signed up so we can fit in a couple more but let me know as soon as you can please.

Monday 23 January 2017

A late good evening to you all. The competition is all set up for tomorrow the start sheet is in the changing room and scores will be entered into the computer, as its the winter stableford and we need to keep track of the total 3 out of 5  scores.

However its unlikely to be a qualifying competition as the yellow tees are well forward and the course may not be long enough. Well make a decision as we go around tomorrow and we can adjust the competition rules accordingly.

Thursday 19 January 2017

So a lovely day after a foggy start the course was in good condition considering the time of year and the Tees were a long way forward.
So why were the scores so bad?, the Par score was 144 and today the winning score 126,

MUST TRY HARDER, thats what my old teacher used to put on my school report, and look what happened to me.

So Congratulations (sort of) to todays winners
Mike Dawson, Brian Rollerson and Pat Hiles with 126, second were Mike Smith, Alex Tyrell and Geoff Mills on 124.

Can all those that are playing in this months prize giving sign up asap please as I will order some food (chips and something) for afterwards and need to get the numbers.

Tuesday 17 January 2017

A much better day today weather wise I hope you all enjoyed it. Strokeplay  is always a challenge but I am assured by those who know (or at least claim to) its the best way to improve your golf.

Anyway for the second Tuesday on the trot I played like a wally but played with the two Div 1 prizewinners, I think I may have to go into coaching.

So Results, only 24 played so only 2 prizes per division

Div 1
1st Dave Williams 71
2nd John Alexander 72 cb

Div 2
1st Eric Wearing 73
2nd Barry Lund cb

On Thursday I have set up a Team game a Yellow Peril Stableford Game and the sign up sheet will be in the Changing Room. Also the draw for next weeks Winter Stableford 3 is on the Tee Time page and will be on the notice board Thursday.

Also I have put up the sign Up sheet for the January Prize Giving, with a 2 Tee start and by delaying the First Tee time to 8:30 and asking all the usual late starters to Tee Off by 9:00 hopefully we can all get together in the Sports Bar afterwards.

Thursday 12 January 2017

So after a day that finished cold and wet after promising so much early on, the result. Only a small turn out so only 2 prizes per division and only that many because Doug was telling me about all the bad luck he's had lately so I hadn't the heart to keep it to 1

Winners

Div 1
1st Roger Laban 68
2nd Doug Keen 69

Div 2
1st Eric Wearing 64
2nd Mike Dawson 68

The final fourball deserve a mention in dispatches for relentless persecution of an objective above and beyond the call of duty.

Me, I just sat in the Sports Bar and chatted.

The results from yesterdays Medal posted below

30 players on a nice day for golf  I started out like a hero and collapsed in a heap on the 12th. I played with Dave Williams and Terry Edmunds, on the 18th Dave drove into the bunkers on the left of the fairway, Terry Geed him up and told him to "give it a go" which Dave did, got a par and beat Terry on countback. Funny Old Game.

So congratulations to the January Medal Winner Dave Williams

I have pinned up the start sheet for Thursday in the changing room, I have set up an Individual Teesing Strokeplay game

Good Luck Lets hope the weather holds

Kevin

Monday 9 January 2017

As usual around this time of year a few pull outs and late entries. It should all work out as long as the back end of the early group can be flexible, perhaps play as a four ball or two two balls.

See you tomorrow

Kevin

Thursday 5 January 2017

Another cold day for our 3,4 &5 team game I cant get used to the greens being quite so bouncy but good fun.

21 played so only a first place prize, so congratulations to John Watt, Mike Dawson and Brian Rollerson 8 points clear of the rest of the field with 86 points (par golf is 74 points)

So strong contenders for "Bandit of the Month" already and its only the 5th

The Medal Start Times are posted but its changing here and there already so keep an eye out for your start time.

Kevin

Tuesday 3 January 2017

First Day back on the course for some of us, only one card put in with the date as 2016, really on the ball for a bunch of oldies.

23 played in cold but bright conditions, I found the greens a bit lively for the first 3 hours but the scores were pretty good considering

Result

Div 1
1st Dave Williams  38 points
2nd Tony Ward  32 points

Div 2
1st Martin Buckingham 37 points
2nd Eric Wearing 34 points

I have made the draw for next Tuesdays Medal and will post it on the web page soon and will pin it up in the Sports Bar Thursday.
The sign up sheet for the next Winter Stableford is also up.

Its the January Main Club Committee on Monday 9th if you have anything for me to raise let me know asap

I have set up a 3, 4 and 5 's team game for Thursday  here's hoping the weather is kind

Sunday 1 January 2017

A very Happy New Year to all our readers

After a well earned break I propose we have a Non Qualifying Individual Stableford  competition on Tuesday, I had thought about a team game but was worried about too many fights on the course after the break and wild revels I know you all have been attending.
So a team game Thursday

I will pin up the start sheet in the changing rooms ready for you early starters, the weather forecast is for cold but bright.

All the best to everyone

Kevin
