Thursday 30 March 2017

So a lovely day at the Lakes and a very enjoyable game.

Winners
1st John Alexander and Roger Laban

2nd Richard gent and Martin Buckingham

I'm afraid the photos of our competition winners didn't really work on my phone, next month we must get someone with a proper camera to do the duty.

Congratulations to all the competition winners and todays nearest the pin winners

Just a few things to note

Brian will be looking for your subs at the Reg Mills Memorial Trophy on Tuesday, the start sheet is up and I will post it on the tee time sheet soon, I noticed that several people had added their names on the sheet but I didn't copy the names I will try and catch up over the next couple of days.

Just to reiterate my main plea for support today, we are still three players short for the home match next Thursday v Haddon Hill. I have agreed with the club that we can leave out the wine and get our meal for £12 a really good price.

So names to me by the end of Tuesdays game please, it would be a real shame to have to lose this long standing fixture so early in the year.

Kevin

Wednesday 29 March 2017

I've just posted the Tee times for tomorrows prize giving.

I've had some wine delivered so we should be OK for nearest the pins and lets hope the weather holds up
Can the first games on make sure I have given you the nearest the pin markers before you go

See you tomorrow for a two tee start from 8:30

Kevin
A lovely day yesterday at Kirtlington, friendly hosts, nice weather, a relaxing day in the sunshine. We lost 4 to 2 but everyone agreed there was some very good golf played by both sides.

Back in Witney what sounded like another nice day but perhaps not as sunny as the start was 2 hours earlier.21 played and the winners scores were all very close.
Div 1
1st Doug Keen 36, 2nd Mike Smith 36 (on count back)

Div 2
1st Rae Comley 34, 2nd John Robinson 34 (on count back)

I'll post the tee times for tomorrows Greensomes next

Saturday 25 March 2017

IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT KIRTLINGTON MATCH

I've just had a not from the Kirtlington Captain and first tee is 10:00 NOT 10:30.

If you see anyone playing please make sure they know.

I'll try and contact the team seperately

Thursday 23 March 2017

What idiot decided it would be a good idea to play 3 clubs and a putter, stroke play on a windy day?

I knew we were in trouble when Mike Dawson apologised to me for his score as I came off the course, he is obviously a bit embarrassed that he keeps winning, I told him not to worry and it wont last long once I get the chance to nobble his handicap.

So 21 played in what I thought was a very enjoyable game, two prizes in each division

Div 1
1st Rod Rapley  75, 2nd Doug Keen 78

Div 2
1st Mike Dawson 74, 2nd John Watt 79 (on count back).

So next Tuesday 12 brave souls are off to Kirtlington for a match praying that its not windy, as anyone who has played there will know how wide open it is.

Ron Feasey has been appointed "Captain For a Day" and will run the Tuesday roll up for the rest, which will be a Stableford Yellow Tee game.

I have the list for next Thursdays prize giving and can still fit in a couple extra. If you want to play email me

Kevin

Wednesday 22 March 2017

Slowly getting back into it, after my break in the East, so I have belatedly remembered to put the sign up sheet for tomorrows game in the changing room.
So its a 3club and a putter game so carry a light bag and have some fun. Dont forget to sign up for the prizegiving next Thursday.

See you all tomorrow

So Winter Stableford result.

Awaiting Conformation from the Adjudicator.

A big swing in favour of Geoff Mills today improving his score by 6 points, too much for the others.

Three tied for runner up I have no idea how count back works unless its by 4th and 5th best scores if it it you can all work it out for yourselves, unfortunately no glory in coming second (or third or fourth either)
So I've been in 40 degree high humidity for 3 weeks, so  why was the lakes so difficult today (joke), it was hard work and I was poor around the greens, unlike the majority who managed what I thought were pretty good scores for a windy day.
So todays result

Congratulations to Geoff and Richard, I reckon Geoff will be back down to 18 pretty soon.

Today was the last round of the Winter Stab so I'll work out the overall scores and put the winners on the blog soon. A full list of scores will be up on the noticeboard by Thursday.

One other point because of my holiday I have only just put up the list for the March prize giving a week Thursday, so please fill it in this Thursday or let me know by email if you want to play.

Really good to be back (liar)

Kevin

Hi all,

I have published the start sheet for next weeks final round of the Winter Stableford, Round 5.

There are a number of people that normally would play that are not signed up.

If you would like to play, can you please e-mail accordingly so I can add to the sheets. I appreciate some will not be able to commit until the day, however it makes it easier for me to organise matters if as many as possible can sign up before

Thanks

Good Afternoon,

Results from today's Hot Toddy Trophy

A good days weather, unfortunately the fertilisation of the greens, led to some difficulties for the chipping and putting, resulting in fairly high scores.

However congratulations to those below whose skills overcame the conditions to win the prizes

Divison 1

 Name                          Gross               Nett
1. Alan Lake                 91                     71
2. Bob Kirkwood          89                     72 CB
3. Geoff Mills               91                     72

Division 2
 Name                          Gross               Nett
1. Martin Buckingham  103                   75
2. Barry Lund               103                    78
3. Alan Jones                  91                    79

A point to note, some of the cards were a little hard to decipher today, including I have been told, the one I was marking.
Can we all try to keep these as clear as possible and if there are changes to the scores the marker should initial those changes.

Thanks

Monday 13 March 2017

Hi there

A couple of changes to the tee times this week as Ron Feasey has had to drop out and Derek has signed up for the Eric Clack Trophy

Please check your tee times

Thursday 9 March 2017

Hi all,

A glorious Oxford spring morning, when the sun came out.

The winners of the Backward Bowmaker today were as follows

1. Alex Tyrell, Eric Wearing and Derek Tidy - Winnings £4 each

2. Pat Hiles, Kevin Sheehan and Alan Jones - winnings £2 each

Apologies, I did not take a note of the actual Stableford points for the winners.

There have been some additions to the start sheets for both The Hot Toddy and Eric Clack competitions, and I noticed that some of the later timings were incorrect so please reacquaint yourselves with the tee off times

U- Boat Semi Final

The semi final of the U-Boat Trophy was also played today between Paddy Marcks and John Watt against Cliff Smith and James Barnatt
The Winners were Paddy and John, congratulations to them.

They will now play Richard Gent and Ron Feasy, which is scheduled for the 27th April

Wednesday 8 March 2017

A day that started a wee bit nippy but ended up really quite warm, I should not have worn those long johns!
Tony ward led the way today we an excellent round of 86, I think that is Tony's first win here.
His handicap has been adjusted accordingly to 15.4, quite right I hear the rest of you say.

Thursday 2 March 2017

Good Afternoon all

The Lan Com International Trophy

Thanks to John Courtney for once again sponsoring this competition.

The conditions were good, albeit a litte cold to start with.
The greens played well considering the work that has gone on this week.
Well Done Martin and Team

The top 3 players for the trophy were

1st   Gerry Collier net 80 on CB Prize  - £20 Golf Voucher
2nd  Rod Rapley net 80                         - £15 Golf Voucher
3rd   Bob Kirkwood net 81 on CB            - £10 Golf Voucher

Brian Rollerson just missed on count back to Bob for third spot
Congratulations to Gerry who also wins the magnificent Rose Bowl Trophy

Monthly Medal
The next competition will be the Monthly Medal, the draw has been made and is on the web site.

Hot Toddy
The sign up sheet is on the Seniors board and will be taken down next Tuesday 7th March

Eric Clack Memorial Trophy
Due to the cancellation (Storm Doris), this competition has been rearranged to 16th March and the sign up sheet is back up on the Seniors Board

Kirtlington Away Match 28th March
The great news is that we have the 12 players needed for the team.
However we still need a couple of Reserves please.
Additional players will be given a first refusal for the following game against Haddon Hill at home on the 6th April, so it is still worth addding your name to the sign up sheet.

Slow Play
This is in the news today as the R&A have publish their suggestions on improving slow play
We can all help each other on this.
If a player in your group is playing slowly, and you are either losing ground to a group behind you, or are causing a bottle neck with other teams waiting on you to play, you can of course politely ask the player to speed up play.
Where possible please be ready to play your shot,as soon as other players in your group have played theirs

Thanks
